Matt is a one of the UK’s most successful athletes, having competed in 4 Olympic Games, winning 3 Olympic medals and multiple World Championship titles.
After a long 16-year career with the British Rowing Team Matt finally achieved his lifetime goal of becoming Olympic Champion at the Rio Olympics of 2016.
Athens was a steep learning curve for Matt as he missed out on the Olympic final by one-hundredth of a second; it did not deter him from his dream of being Olympic Champion and four years later he won his first Olympic medal with a Silver in the eight-man crew at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Fours year later at his home Olympics at London 2012, again in the eight, Matt along with his teammates produced a brave and courageous race, where they led the World Champions and favourites Germany into the closing stages, unfortunately unable to hang onto the Gold medal Matt finished with a well-earned and admirable Bronze.
After a rowing career that has seen Matt crowned a multiple World and European Champion and with a handful of World and Olympic medals, Matt produced a near perfect race to achieve the sports ultimate accolade to become Olympic champion on the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon at the Rio Olympics.
